About Mark

Meet Mark Smith

Born and raised in the Lowcountry, State Representative Mark Smith is a dedicated conservative and successful small businessman. His values—faith, family, and freedom—guide
his approach to life, business, and public service.

Mark and his wife of 31 years, Elayne, have three adult sons: Parker, Avery, and Domenic. Their family also includes Hugo, a lively German Shorthaired Pointer. The Smiths are active members
of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church on Daniel Island.

As the Owner and President of McAlister-Smith Funeral Homes, Avinger Funeral Home, Palmetto Cremation Society, and Columbia Pet Cremation Center, Mark oversees eight locations across Charleston, Berkeley, Orangeburg, and Lexington Counties, managing a team of over 30 employees.
Beyond his legislative work, Mark has a long history of community service. He is the former Chairman of the S.C. Advisory Council on Aging and the Lowcountry Food Bank, and is a past president of the Rotary Club of Charleston.

Currently, Mark serves as President of the Daniel Island Republican Club and is a past president of the East Cooper Republican Club. He is also an active member of the Daniel Island Rotary Club.

The South Carolina Policy Council (SCPC) is South Carolina's longest-serving free market research organization and is dedicated to promoting and protecting the principles of limited government, individual liberties, free markets, and traditional South Carolina values. SCPC has been a leader in tax reduction and reform, private property rights, education reform, judicial reform, government deregulation, transparency and governmental accountability, and efforts to expand individual liberty.
